Deterioration In Air Quality Alert Issued For Montreal – High Concentrations Of Pollutants
Smog Warning issued by Environment Canada at 1:25 AM EST Saturday 02 March 2019
High concentrations of pollutants are expected to persist overnight tonight which according to Environment Canada, could result in result in a deterioration in air quality.
Asthmatic children and people with respiratory ailments or heart disease are advised to avoid intense physical activity outdoors until the smog warning is lifted.
Montreal residents are asked to stop using your wood-burning stove or fireplace until the smog warning has been lifted.
Using your wood-burning stove or fireplace is the main source of fine particles that contribute to smog during winter. This activity generates the largest number of these particulates, more than industrial activities and transportation.
Opting for public transit, reducing our driving speed and not letting car engines idle unnecessarily will also contribute to reduce smog levels.
