During a conference this Sunday in Montreal, the youth wing of the Parti Québécois (PQ) voted to end public subsidies for private schools, in addition to demanding free education for each person.

“Taxpayers shouldn’t pay for the choices of the bourgeois,” declared one delegate.

Quebec finances up to 40 per cent of the budgets of private schools, which totals about $500 million annually.

According to the Canadian Press, Quebec’s Conseil supérieur de l’éducation (CSE) which advises the Education Minister on education-related issues, “found that schooling in the province is among the least egalitarian in Canada.”
