This Saturday, Montreal’s restaurants, bars, and clubs are staging a symbolic reopening after the pandemic forced a shutdown that has lasted well over a year.

Organizers say they have notified the appropriate city officials, and individuals partaking in the event must wear a mask and follow public health orders.

The event aims to allow people to discover or rediscover the dining rooms and places they once enjoyed before the lockdown. Participating businesses will hand out gift certificates and other surprises to those passing by.

Some of the businesses taking part the event include Chez Alexandre, Les Enfants Terribles, Joe Beef, Montreal Plaza, Le Mousso, Chez Luigi, Pied de Cochon, Homard Fou, Jardin Nelson, Europea and …

Quebec Premier Francois Legault on Tuesday announced that restaurants and bars might be permitted to operate if COVID-19 cases continue to drop.

“We hope that in the next few weeks [we’ll bring] many zones to orange so that we can open restaurants in May,” he said.

In a letter industry, representatives urged Legault to allow bars and restaurants to reopen for customers who have received at least a dose of the vaccine.
