In a new study, weather experts predict Montreal’s climate in 2080 will feel warmer and wetter, similar to today’s climate near Chester, Pennsylvania.

Ecologist Matt Fitzpatrick and biologist Rob Dunn analyzed 540 urban areas across Canada and the United States using climate-analog mapping, a technique that compares the similarity of a location’s climate to another place and/or time.

Three primary datasets were used in the study, the current climate, climate variability between the years and the third took into account future climate projections. The study led to the creation of an interactive map showing how climate change will transform your city if emissions remain unchanged and if emissions are reduced.

The results predict that if emissions remain high in Montreal, the climate in 2080 will feel similar to today’s climate near Chester, Pennsylvania. The typical summer in Chester, Pennsylvania is 7.5°F (4.2°C) warmer and 11.6% wetter than summer in Montreal.

Select your city and the interactive map will pinpoint a city that matches what your climate may be in 2080.
